Speeches

Over the last few weeks the students have been busy at home and in class deciding upon a speech topic, researching their topic and writing their speeches.

Yesterday we started presenting the speeches in class.  All the students wrote their names on pieces of paper and then they were put into a hat and we drew two names out at a time.  The first person drawn our gave their speech while their buddy filled in a peer assessment form marking them on criteria including, "Show that the speech has been researched and practiced" through to "Speak clearly" and "Use cue cards correctly".  Then the students swapped roles before the next two names were drawn out of the hat.

There was a fantastic range of topics from dogs to tigers, sharks to Sylvanian families.  The speeches contained lots of interesting facts, humour and personal opinion and I was very impressed.

We will hear the last speeches today and then tomorrow three or four representatives will give their speech again in front of the whole of year three in our "Speech Finals".

Here are a few photos from yesterday, I will update the blog with details of how we get on in the finals later in the week.
